This was our reward at 16, 000 feet. The sun was just rising. It was absolutely gorgeous! Well worth the hike.

Another beautiful scene.

Mt. Kenya Prep Hike

Here we are, ready for yet another hike. Haven't we had enough? Yes, the boys don't seem too thrill about this one. Caleb complained all the way, to and fro. I don't have any more pictures of the many prep hikes we had to take. I got tired of carrying the camera. Hey, extra weight to carry!

Two of the SMs, Desi and Ngina. We have enjoyed their company on these hikes.

The Masai graze their sheep and cows at these hills. For a moment, I thought of Heidi in the Swiss Alps! Brrr...

These are some of the hills we had to climb. This time we didn't have to use our 30 lbs. backpack. Phew!

More climbing....

Masai Sabbath School

Hadassah told the kids the lesson would be about how God created the earth and one of them immediately says "Oh yes, it is called creation and it is found in the book of Genesis!" They know more than we think they do. We would also like to start some sort of Dorcas ministry there.

Most of these kids go to school. Their native tongue is Masai, although they speak English fairly well.

Hadassah (the elementary teacher) has had the desired to do Sabbath School at the Ngong Hills with the Masai children. The noise you hear is the wind. It is always windy at the hills. Kyle shot the video.

Caleb, enjoying his haystacks. Here we eat them with potato chips rather than tortilla chips. For some reason, Kenya doesn't make tortilla chips, and the ones you would find at the stores are imported and very expensive! We've gotten used to it.

Kyle, ditto.

Mombasa Scenery

This is one of my favorite pictures. Very tranquil! I loved it.

You are now looking at the Indian Ocean. Very clear waters. Perfect for snorkeling.

The boys, back from snorkeling. They sure had a blast!

They boys, kite boarding. They asked me if I wanted to do it. No thanks! I saw how the kite lifted Lari. I was afraid I would end up in China!

Mombasa Lodging

This is the bedroom we stayed in. They were very nice rooms.
We shared this cabin with the Doss'.

This is what you saw from inside the cabin.

Yes, we had vaulted ceilings! There is a mesh around the edge of the roof to protect your stuff from monkeys!

Kibara Slums

It is customary for the visitor to have a song service. So, here we are singing "I've got peace like a river." Mind you, we weren't prepared for that! We quickly came up with some songs and even taught the kids a few of them. It was a good visit. It definitely made me realize how blessed we truly are.

Kyle and Caleb passing out candy. Sorry the pictures are out of order! :)

Kibara Slums

Every year the school plans a trip to visit the Kibara Slums (the largest one in Nairobi), where over 1 million people live in shacks. The place is no bigger than New York's Central Park. In it, you will see all kinds of different shops where people live, work, and play. Indeed a city within a city. The school has a contact person who runs a shelter. The nuns in the back ground were in charge the day we went. We brought them some food and clothing items. They were very grateful.

You can barely see how far the shacks go.
