Excitement on Campus!

Last week, the Doss' gardener saw a snake heading to the boys' dorm. She screamed. I would have too! Everyone came to see what the commotion was about. Someone ran to Maintenance to see if they could take care of the problem. After all, aren't they supposed to catch snakes too? Derek took off hoping to catch the snake. I know he wouldn't have rested until he got it. He asked if she could tell what kind of snake it was. "For sure," she said, "it was a COBRA!" Because it had flared at her. Everyone here knows how deadly they can be and it had to be removed from campus.
And got he did.....after the snake got away from him and reappeared. The snake had gone in a hole after being cornered in a bush. Two hours later he had it contained as you can see.

Dissecting the Cobra

This is one ugly snake. Never mind. They are ALL ugly!
He measured 5 feet tall. Here is the proud snake catcher holding his prize!
Dissecting was a breeze! For the crowd, that is. He searched online for tips on dissecting a snake. Some of the students enjoyed the show.
Here is the Pastor and his wife. Proudly holding the snake. Who said Susan didn't like snakes?

Saturday Night Games

We had decided to have over the students that had to stay on campus for what they call "long weekend". "Long Weekend" is a time for the students to go home (if they can) to be with their families. Most of them went on a field trip to the Masai Mara, some went home, and a few stayed on campus. To bring a little bit of cheerfulness to their lives, we had them over for a round of Uno card game (with the crazy rules!) and ice cream. They love ice cream!
One of the girls decide to play songs on my guitar. Marielle plays really good!

They had fun. We only played one round because the game lasted quite a while.

Rare shots!

I thought I'd show you these rare sun rings. I was at the cafeteria when the boys came running telling me to come look at the sun. I wish I had my sunglasses! I almost couldn't look at it. I call the cafeteria employees and ask them if they had seen such a thing before. They all said yes, but not quite that big! I ask them if they know what it is and they said that it is believed that when you see that it is because someone of importance is coming. I thought to my self....It looks like Jesus is coming!!! It was so bright I almost couldn't take a picture. I wonder how much brighter it will be when Jesus appears in the sky! It is my prayer that it will be soon. Although, we are advised in the Spirit of Prophecy to ask God to delay the return of his Son for the sake of souls that have not been reached yet. So let's complete the work so we can go home! And we can see you again to never depart!

Babysitting Jerry

The Crutchers were gone on a weekend field trip and were in need of "critter sitting." The boys gladly volunteer. It is Joshua's pet chameleon.
He is kind of cute. Isn't he?

Full Moon In Africa

I just thought I post these beautiful full moon pictures. We have been having a few beautiful full moon nights. No, we don't hear any animals howl.

Cold Days in Africa!

Yes, believe or not it does get cold here. The temperature that morning was 63 degrees! Brrr.. Derek decided to warm up the house a bit. Kyle was still sleeping and joying his warm bed. Derek said he misses the one we had in Tennessee. Just a touch of the remote control and the fireplace would start! Oh the commodities of life! He had to work to get this one going!

Caleb decided to warm up the fire, not in the bed!

Ngong Hills Trip

These pictures were taken at the Ngong Hills. These are all the faculty kids, (minus a baby who stayed home with his mom).
There is a total of 6 families with children, and 6 SMs (single missionaries) that are not in the picture but are probably somewhere in the hills..... All the kids get along most of the time :)

These are all the faculty married ladies of the campus, (minus the one who stayed home with the baby and the principal). There is actually two of them who speak Spanish! Imagine that! I thought for sure I would never speak Spanish again if I move to Kenya... It's great! We have a good time together.

Here we are! The boys have done some growing since we left, it's hard to tell in this picture. They love being here.

Date Night

Derek and I finally go to go on date! We hadn't had one since we decided to come to Maxwell. Our friends Richard and Hadassah decided to take us to an Ethiopian Restaurant. We had first experience Ethiopian food en route to Kenya and we'd like it. The "christmas tree" looking thing (as we called it) is actually the table where they put your food. You don't have individual plates. The food comes on a large 2in. platter. The food is sitting on towel looking thing called "Enjeera." Enjeera is a type of fermented bread, which we did not like when we first tried it at a hotel we stayed at overnight Ethiopia.

Being our first time to really eat it the "Ethiopian" way, was a real treat. We really enjoyed it. I didn't think we had order enough food, but it was more than plenty!

The food is sitting on top of a very large enjeera. To the left is a basket full of rolled up enjeeras, they looke like white rolled up towels. There is no silverware served with this meal. We all had to use our fingers (yes, we all had clean hands before we dug in!) It doesn't look like very much food, but we all got full too soon! It cost us a total of $26 for all four of us. Richard and Hadassah used to visit an Ethiopian restaurant in Chicago in which they paid $30 per person! Ouch! They love this type of food and so do we!

Here we are! We had a good time. We know the boys would've had a blast eating with us. We told them all about it when we got back and wish they had come with us! Fortunately for them (and us), the Crutchers wanted to go and decided to visit it again the following week! They like it too (Although I don't think their kids were too fond of it!). We hope to go again soon!
